  • Krill are shrimp-like crustaceans and one of the most abundant multicellular organisms on Earth. They are a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids – alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The body can only get these omega fatty acids from food or supplements, but they are an important component of every cell membrane in the body and are vital to the body’s energy levels, skin, heart, brain, blood vessels, lungs, immune system and endocrine system.Although fish oil also contains EPA and DHA, studies have found that even though the dose of krill oil in each capsule is generally lower than that of fish oil, it is more effective than fish oil in lowering blood sugar, triglycerides and “bad” cholesterol, and improving health, skin, etc. This is because krill oilโ€™s omega-3s are in the phospholipid form, while fish oilโ€™s are in the triglyceride form. Since human cell membranes are made of phospholipids, the omega-3 in krill oil is easier to pass through the intestinal wall into the blood than fish oil and then be used by the body. That is, the absorption rate and bioavailability of krill oil are higher than fish oil. So even at a lower dose, krill oil is more effective than high doses of fish oil.

In addition, krill oil is recognized as superior to fish oil for its super antioxidant “king of carotenoids” astaxanthin (also known as astaxanthin), which can cross the blood-brain barrier, other antioxidants, vitamins A and E, and its effectiveness in improving acne and hormonal acne.

    Krill oil benefits include:

    Anti-inflammatory
Krill oil is rich in phospholipid-type omega-3 fatty acids with anti-inflammatory properties, such as docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), which can significantly reduce inflammation levels in the blood, thereby reducing the risk of chronic diseases, slowing down the aging of body cells and organs, and having a protective effect against certain autoimmune diseases.

    Improves skin health
In addition to being rich in phospholipid-type omega-3 fatty acids with anti-inflammatory properties such as DHA and EPA, krill oil can significantly reduce inflammation levels in the blood. They have also been shown to prevent the production of specific molecules related to inflammation, thereby improving skin inflammatory conditions such as atopic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis and rosacea. Phospholipid krill oil also helps nourish the skin and repair the skin barrier to improve dry skin problems.

    Improve acne and hormonal acne
Studies have found that supplementing with the phospholipid omega-3 fatty acids found in krill oil can reduce inflammatory and hormonal acne by up to 42% because it promotes the bodyโ€™s production of eicosanoids, which effectively regulate inflammation and restore hormonal balance.

Promote collagen and elastic fiber proliferation
Studies have found that phospholipid omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA can promote the proliferation of collagen and elastic fibers, thereby improving wrinkles and maintaining the health of bones and connective tissue.

    Improves heart health
The phospholipid-type omega-3 fatty acids contained in krill oil have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease and improve cardiovascular function by increasing levels of HDL (good) cholesterol, lowering heart rate and blood pressure, reducing triglyceride levels, and reducing the risk of coronary heart disease.

    Supports Brain Health
The phospholipid omega-3 fatty acids in krill oil can help reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, slow cognitive decline, enhance memory, and may even be beneficial for ADHD, manic depression, and schizophrenia.

    Supports Strong Bones and Joints
Research shows that the phospholipid omega-3 fatty acids in krill oil can help maintain bone density, reduce inflammation that causes bone and joint pain, and reduce the risk of osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and arthritis.

    Increase good intestinal flora
Krill oil is a prebiotic, which means it is an excellent food source for the good bacteria in your gut. This helps promote good gut microbiome while inhibiting the growth of bad bacteria.

The biggest difference between krill oil and regular fish oil is the astaxanthin it contains. Astaxanthin is a fat-soluble carotenoid found naturally in krill oil. It is often called the โ€œking of carotenoidsโ€ because studies have shown it to be one of natureโ€™s most powerful antioxidants โ€“ 6,000 times more potent than vitamin C, 550 times more potent than vitamin E, and 40 times more potent than beta-carotene in protecting cells from free radicals and oxidative stress. It is important to note that natural astaxanthin, such as that found in krill oil, is up to 20 times more effective at eliminating free radicals than synthetic astaxanthin.

The wide range of benefits of astaxanthin include:

    Strengthens the immune system
Astaxanthin can affect the immune system, helping to activate white blood cells (T cells) and natural killer cells, allowing the body to eliminate harmful invaders more quickly.

    Supports cognitive and brain health
Carotenoids effectively protect the brain and reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases. Because astaxanthin is smaller than other carotenoid molecules, it can cross the blood-brain barrier and provide protection for the brain and other body organs. In fact, studies show that astaxanthin may increase the formation of new brain cells and enhance spatial memory, which may help prevent and/or slow the onset of Alzheimerโ€™s disease and other cognitive disorders.

    Supports Heart Health
Astaxanthin effectively reduces total cholesterol, LDL (bad) cholesterol, while increasing HDL (good) cholesterol and lowering blood pressure. In addition, it can prevent the accumulation of fat and cholesterol in the arteries to prevent atherosclerosis.

    Reduces inflammation
Chronic inflammation may contribute to diabetes, celiac disease, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, heart disease, and inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis, rosacea, eczema, and acne. Astaxanthin can help the body and skin defend against free radicals that cause inflammation, and has an effect on reactive oxidative species, including a specific DNA damage factor that may be transformed into disease in the future, and reduces proteins that can cause inflammation, thereby reducing the body’s inflammatory index and improving the above conditions.

    Strengthen vision health
Studies have shown that astaxanthin can protect retinal cells from oxidative damage while reducing symptoms of eye fatigue such as dry eyes.

    Protects skin from UV rays
Astaxanthin taken orally can be stored in the epidermis and dermis of the skin, which helps block ultraviolet rays from penetrating and reduce the damage caused by ultraviolet rays to skin cells, thereby slowing down and preventing photoaging.

    Reduce and prevent skin aging
Studies have found that taking astaxanthin orally or topically can help improve wrinkles, pigmentation, skin texture and moisture content, thereby reducing and preventing skin aging.
